Online Events
Hereford Chess club also provides opportunities for members and non-members to play in online tournaments on Mondays evenings. These tournaments are about fun, keeping chess alive locally, and providing an opportunity to play chess for those who may not be able to attend the club meetings on Wednesday evenings, or who want to play even more chess because once a week is just not enough !!
These tournaments really do welcome those new to chess. Indeed, we would like more ‘fun’ players - so do join in whatever your ability and invite your chess friends. We also welcome the more serious player to show the others their potential for improvement. We call each week’s games a Tournament; but that is an exaggeration, these are games between chess players for fun and for which we award notional medals for the 3 best players on each night.
We play for two hours. You do not have to stay in for two hours. You can join anytime between 7.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. and if you wish you can limit yourself to one game, but beware: this kind of chess is very addictive (In a good way). You can also just watch the games and join-in when you feel ready to..
There is no cost and no need to download software on to your laptop, PC or phone.
If you are interested please contact Kieran Lappin on 07851 200965 and Kieran will go through the procedure for accessing the site; once in it is absolutely straightforward. You really do not need any computer skill; we have some players who think a mouse is a furry animal that cats play with!!
The local Malvern Club also host a similar online event each Thursday. Contact Kieran if this is a more convenient evening or you just want more chess.
A number of the club’s members also play in National Online Tournaments e.g. The Four Nations Chess League (4NCL). These are a bit more formal and do award trophies (our club players have won several). They do charge nominal sums, but are also great fun. There are a number of sections in the tournaments to enable you to play with opponents of similar chess skill. Again contact Kieran if you would like further details.
